Today's daily oil painting is number eighty-one from the Citylights series of paintings of Detroit streets and lights at night. This painting will be available at the Detroit Artist Market "Night
Show" opening Friday, June 8th, 2012. This is a wonderful group show of
paintings and photographs by some of Detroit's finest artists. Opening
reception is from 6:00-8:00. Hope to see everyone there Click on image for larger view. 12.130 #1608
I haven't been posting as many new daily paintings lately because I have been working on some larger gallery pieces. This is the first of two new gallery paintings for the City Streets group show at The George Billis Gallery.

This daily painting is an urban landscape view of a colorful doorway "No 7"on Michigan Ave. There is an interesting story to this painting. As I was shooting the photo I noticed a car speeding towards me from three lanes over. I ran and jumped to the sidewalk just in time as the car swerved to hit me. Very scary, this is the first time something like this has happened in twenty years of shooting Detroit. Photographer friend Bruce Giffin said the same thing happened to him recently. Hope this is not a new trend.
This daily painting is the 1,600th daily painting I have finished since starting "Postcards from Detroit" in August of 2007. Many, many thanks to everyone who has supported this blog. It has been a wonderful adventure and as I approach the five year anniversary I feel there will be some changes made in what I paint and post on this blog. Perhaps some slightly larger paintings, En Plein Air paintings, paintings from other cities and other countries, and maybe not one every day. What do you think?
