DETROIT STORIES... ORIGINAL SMALL OIL PAINTINGS
OF DETROIT BY STEPHEN MAGSIG AND SMALL OIL PAINTINGS BY JANET HAMRICK
I loved II, now I love Max's Theater III, the subtle shadow, the stains... excellent Stephen.
Steve-Don't know if you remember me or not - I was an A.D. at a small agency upstairs across the atrium from Skidmore back in the 80s. I believe at the time you had just begun painting for pleasure while still working commercially. That said, I was and continue to be blown away by your work since I discovered your blog a few months back.Edward Hopper was my fave artist coming up - always related to the loneliness/isolation/stark contrasts in his work - and you, have perfected that perspective...brilliant. An informational note on this piece - Max's is actually Max Rosenbaum Jeweler - this stretch of Chene was part of my stomping grounds as a kid. He opened at this location circa 1913, opened another on Jos. Compau at Yemens in Hamtown in 1940.I did my take on Max's a couple years back as a personal promo for the People's Arts Fest at the Russell - if you care to check it out:digitalghetto.com click on the 'events' link at bottom.Again, absolutlely stunning work Steve.Best,Larry ZelenskyIf you care to
