Bridge to Belle Isle

Bridge to Belle Isle
Oil on linen/panel, 2011, 5x14"
SOLD
Today's oil painting is an urban landscape of evening sunlight on the MacArthur bridge to Belle Isle. Another painting in the longer horizontal format. I really like these and think I will do some larger paintings in this format, what do you think?

I agree. I did an 8" x 24" a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed the format. The rhythm in this one is wonderful.

Stephen: I agree. I think you should do some larger long pieces. This particular painting kicks ass..

I like the longer format also. But I feel this one needs something ..... a small boat or someone on the bridge to the right of the stack? But that's me. The sunlight really pops. I like it a lot.

It's been many, many years since I visited Belle Isle. As I recall, there was a military base on the north end of the island. Cold war air defence of Detroit with Nike missiles. I don't image it is still there, but then there have been a lot of changes since I lasted lived in Detroit. Trams down Woodward from the State Fair grounds down to J.L. Hudsons and boats down river to Boblo Island. Nice to see someone painting 'the now' of Detroit.
