72nd Street, The Dakota
Oil on linen/panel, 2011 7x5"
SOLD
To a collector in Windsor, CT
Today's oil painting is an urban landscape  of  The Dakota Apartment Building as seen from the 72nd Street subway entrance. This is a study for a larger painting for my May NY show. I wanted to do a study before taking on the larger painting to make sure it works. What do you think? Should I do the larger version?
I will also be devoting more time to getting ready for this show and will be spending less time on the small daily paintings.

Hi Stephen, I like the idea a lot and if I had any suggestion it might only be to possibly try the same but with more sky open at the top of the painting. It would emphasize the low perspective. I took the liberty of cropping the painting to show you what I meant. What do you think?

Regards, Jeff

Thanks all! I am pretty sure I will be doing a larger version. 42x36" would make a better composition, I felt the same about the size Jeff, thanks.I will post when it is done.

It has been almost a year since I was fortunate enough to find your blog. We wish you all the best in your endeavors. In this year I have found you to be a kind, gracious, and generous individual. I've always been amazed at your prolific ability. Although we will survive the outcome of your spending less time on the small painting. We do hope you keep us abreast of what work you will do.

So now what do I think. I like to go back through what works you have done. I'll say it is not as striking as “The Chelsea Hotel” 25 May 2008. But that's not fair as I'm partial to signs. But the comparison of the 20 May 2008 “Spring Street Subway Station” and “72nd Street The Dakota” I think Spring street takes the cake. Whatever you decide we always find pleasure in giving you our support.
