Shadows on the Wall

Shadows on the Wall
Oil on linen/panel, 2010, 5x7"
To a collector in Detroit, MI
This daily painting is a Detroit urban landscape of early morning  sunlight and rich shadows on a bright yellow wall on Gratiot Ave. Trying to go with the less is more train of thought from yesterday's Mondrian composition. I like the idea that it isn't necessarily what you paint but how you paint. Trying to find beauty or interest in all things.

Wow, super palpable. The blades of grass really pop out. i guess having the shadow flatness allows the foreground to stand out nicely. very cool. you just happened on it?
