Blue RR Car

Blue RR Car
Oil on linen/panel, 2010, 7x5"
To a collector in Silver Spring, MD
This daily painting is an industrial landscape of a blue RR car in front of storage elevators on the Maumee River. I saw these a couple weeks ago and was stopped from taking photos. A large wrecking ball was knocking the first ones down. I am so glad I have many shots of these, as another piece of our past will soon be gone.

This is a glorious painting. Let's hope that the glory days of trains will return! I was going to say 'be resurrected' because it's absurd not to make the most of this wonderful mode of transportation on which North America was built. If you travel in Europe, train service has never been better.

Love your palette on this one. Glad to hear you already have other photos of these. If no one is paying attention then one day it will all be gone with no record of it. The same thing is happening here (LA) and in some cases I wished I had taken MORE photos of some site before it was demo'ed.

On trains... (cohen labelle), true we don't travel by trains as in the past but interesting enough if you think about it we still use them for commerce. Goods still move by rail, maybe more than if not as much, than by air or trucks. At least in large quantities...

Even the digital age can't overcome that.
So we should be seeing trains for a long time still.

Actually guys, rail service, freight service, that is, is at an all-time high. Railroads have made an amazing comeback from their near demise in the 70s. They're still struggling with passenger service though, but who knows what the future holds?! Great piece, Stephen! Love it!
