Hamtramck Shadows
Oil on linen/panel, 2010, 5x5"
This daily painting is an urban landscape of a building on a quiet Hamtramck St. This style of building was used as storefronts and can be seen all over Hamtramck. I love the simple shapes and austerity of these wonderful buildings from another era. There is so much mystery to these, who lived and worked in these through the years? And what stories could they tell us.

beautiful Stephen!
I love your blog and especially
today's picture.
Greetings from Germany
Thanks! I enjoyed visiting your sites, and linked from mine. Best, Stephen
It kills me how some people (you see this more in Detroit & Hamtramck) will put siding over a dormer window. Here, it looks like they did it on the main floor, too! It makes for some good box shapes to paint, though.
Patrick, I agree it is a shame, but it does make for interesting paintings
Love the solid clarity of shapes.
