We took a road trip thru the flatlands of Ohio a few days ago to see Janet's father. I had a chance to get some nice shots. These storage silos are for Pioneer Sugar. I grew up in Northern Ohio and one of the crops we grew was sugar beets.
These silos are near Finley, Ohio. The late afternoon light was very nice.

Stephen, how do you do it? There's such a wonderful quality and depth in this. It's a lovely painting.
Mkes me feel noatalgic for a time and place I have never been to. Superb painting.
Stephen- I was SHOCKED to see a painting of these Rt 71 icons (they are just south of Lima)! I grew up in Toledo and until recently, lived in Columbus for 17 years- (I moved to New Mexico in June) these silos have represented the "journey home" in many ways for me over the years. I really enjoy your work- I think your paintings of Detroit capture the post-industrial spirit of Toledo also. Keep up the good work. Sincerely- Tom Pohlman
I live in Croswell, MI., the center of sugarbeet-land, and home to a Pioneer Sugar processing plant. The mountains of beets in their orderly mounds at harvest time would make a wonderful painting.
